Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the relationship between diffuse pancreatic fatty infiltration with blood lipids and blood glucose.

Methods

From June 2016 to November 2016, 64,155 subjects underwent physical examination in the affiliated hospital of Yangzhou University. There were 1030 cases of diffuse pancreatic fatty infiltration diagnosed by ultrasound. 4229 cases without pancreatic adipose infiltrate at the same time were randomly selected as a non-invasion group. The physical examination report data of the selected subjects were analyzed, and the differences in the incidence of hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia between the diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration group and the non-pancreatic fat infiltration group were compared by χ2 test. Independent sample t test was used to explore the relationship between diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration and blood lipids and blood glucose.

Results

The incidence of fasting hyperglycemia, high cholesterol and high triglycerides was 23.7%, 14.1%, and 62.1% in diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration group, respectively. The incidence of fasting hyperglycemia, high cholesterol and high triglycerides in non-pancreatic fat infiltration group was 11.1%, 10.2%, and 34.5%, respectively. The incidence of fasting hyperglycemia, high cholesterol and high triglycerides in the diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration group was significantly higher than that in the non-pancreatic fat infiltration group (The value of χ2 were 112.74, 13.00 and 259.36, respectively, P<0.001). The average concentrations of fasting plasma glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides in the diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration group were (5.86±1.91) mmol/L, (4.72±0.94) mmol/L and (2.45±2.03) mmol/L, respectively. The average concentrations of blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in non-pancreatic fat infiltration group were (5.30±1.31) mmol/L, (4.54±0.90) mmol/L and (1.74±1.80) mmol/L, respectively. The average concentrations of fasting blood glucose, high cholesterol and high triglycerides in diffuse fatty pancreatic infiltration were significantly higher than those in the non-pancreatic fat infiltration group (P<0.001).

Conclusions

Diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration is significantly associated with fasting blood glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. Ultrasound diagnosis of diffuse pancreatic fat infiltration has important clinical value for asymptomatic hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia, and can be used for early clinical intervention and treatment.
