Abstract:

Objective

To assess the diagnostic value of color Doppler ultrasound in intestinal tuberculosis.

Method

A retrospective analysis was performed of 36 cases of clinically confirmed intestinal tuberculosis, and color Doppler ultrasound findings of the lesions were observed.

Results

Color Doppler ultrasound revealed intestinal wall thickening as well as decreased and uneven echogenecity in 36 cases, diffuse thickening in 29 (80.6%), nodular thickening in 7 (19.4%), intestinal wall ulceration in 3 (8.3%), and mesenteric lymph node enlargement in 18 [50%; among them 6 (16.7%) had visible bulky calcification], and ascites in 20 (55.6%).

Conclusions

Intestinal tuberculosis mainly manifests as bowel wall thickening, sometimes with ulceration, on ultrasound. The analysis of sonographic findings can help improve the diagnosis of intestinal tuberculosis.
