Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the ultrasound characteristics of ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) and provide basis for early diagnosis of OCCC.

Methods

Retrospective analysis was performed on 45 patients with OCCC, who were pathologically diagnosed and treated in Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2005 to May 2017.

Results

In forty-five cases of OCCC, forty-six lesions were found (forty-four cases of unilateral ovarian lesions, one case of bilateral ovarian lesion). Among forty-six lesions, thirty-two (69.6%) were regular in shape, fourteen (30.4%) were irregular. Among forty-six lesions, forty (87.0%) had clear margin, six (13.0%) had blurry margin. The maximum diameter of lesion was 4.8-17.6 cm with mean value of 10.2±3.4 cm. Fifteen lesions (32.6%) were predominantly solid, twelve lesions (26.1%) were cystic, and nineteen lesions (41.3%) were mixed. The color Doppler examination showed that twenty-eight (69.9%) lesions had abundant blood flow, while eighteen (39.1%) lesions had little blood flow. Ascites was found in six (13.3%) cases.

Conclusions

OCCC usually appears as a large unilateral mass with mixed component, clear margin and abundant blood flow.Ultrasound examination can play an important role in the early diagnosis of OCCC, and provide valuable information for surgical treatment.
