Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application value of PDCA circulation method in improving the quality of ultrasonographic images of the infant hip.

Methods

Three hundred hip ultrasonic images of 150 infants screened at Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital from July 2017 to December 2017 were evaluated, with an image quality score ≥ 90 regarded as grade A standard. A continuous quality improvement (CQI) group was set up for image quality assessment, and PDCA circulation method was utilized to improve the quality of ultrasonographic images of the infant hip. Then, 500 hip ultrasonic images of 250 infants screened at Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital from January 2018 to June 2018 were evaluated. The proportions of grade A standard images before and after PDCA circulation were compared by chi-square test.

Results

82% (246/300) of images reached the standard before the PDCA circulation, and 96% (480/500) reached the standard after the PDCA circulation; the image quality was significantly improved after PDCA circulation (χ2=43.779, P<0.01). The sonographers' mastery of the standard section was improved obviously. The difference in the composition ratio of deduction items before and after PDCA circulation reflected the enhancement of the sonographers' consciousness of standard image storage.

Conclusion

The application of PDCA circulation effectively improves the quality of ultrasonic images of the infant hip, which is worthy of being popularized in the quality control process.
